The Garth Hotel, standing on the north end of the village square, in the heart of Grantown-on-Spey, was built in 1769 by James Grant, founder of Grantown on Spey, as a private residence. In 1935 the building was bought by Mr W G Donaldson, an ironmonger, who had it converted into the Garth Hotel. Over the years the hotel has prospered, becoming the Premier Independent Hotel in Grantown-on-Spey.
